A four-year stay in California taught me the importance
of drought-tolerant gardens and a new perspective for clean, modern
lines in interior spaces. With land at a premium in many areas, I came
away with a desire for outdoor garden space. In between rose
gardening, family responsibilities, and obtaining a degree in fashion
design, the time on the West Coast was well spent.
Living in the East Coast has fulfilled that need
(although sometimes I get a profound feeling that less is always more) and the
area has aroused my passion for colonial architecture and a new respect
for the old. I'm also honing my design skills at the New York
School of Interior Design in between my busy schedule. I plan to
graduate in late 2008. There is no other place I'd rather travel
to for a design education than New York.
I enjoy what I do and try very hard to maintain a balance
of my perspectives in designing for my clients. Not everyone can afford
–or would want, for that matter-- sumptuous silk passementarie dripping
off custom draperies. I always prefer the natural unadorned look.
My philosophy is to accommodate and streamline the
preferences of my clients while maintaining budget constraints whether
that budget is several thousand or a few hundred dollars.
After all, I’m the type of “ama de casa” who still
cleans her own house, mows the yard, pulls the pesky weeds, re-caulks
the bathroom tub, etc…….Most of the time, I’m Nancy Jane at Work.
Yes, throw the two kids, husband and dogs in and you have
a typical household with all the amenities that go with it.
