About Nancy

     Gardening…

Gardening is my “workout”…my outdoor expression encompassing sweat, bruises, hives and a lot of dirt.

Yes, you'll find that during the warmer months, I favor nature's exterior design versus interior design.  In my yard, I prefer the wide palette of nature's earthy, warm and cool colors that always looks unplanned but never tawdry.  I plant wherever things do well in the soil whether it is complimentary to its neighbor.    Luckily the garden is an easy place to experiment with color, texture and proportion and get some exercise at the same time.

Last year I grew poppies, alyssum, cleome, snapdragon, candytuft and lupines with great success.

Below:  William Baffin roses in the entrance of the vegetable garden.  These roses are heavenly in scent!

The eye needs a resting place in the garden AND in the home.

This section will be updated as the seasons change to provide you with helpful information with your own gardening tasks.

From planting to bloom....the fruits of labor

These poppies and blue flax make a vibrant color combination.  Try this inside with simple pillows.

Tulips and hyacinths showing their vibrant colors.

Spring....Yes-It's here.  I still have a spring clean up to do but I am eager to see the bulbs start popping through and showing their color.  With the help of a local garden designer (Twining Gardens) we were able to edit most of my beds.  I need to limit myself to shopping trips to the nursery this season.  With summer school at NYSID, that won't be too difficult.   I might keep my drafting table right where it is....facing the back yard so I can enjoy the knock out roses and  natural landscape.
